Pets in Heaven? The Bible Says So!

A few weeks ago, someone called a local radio station and asked the host if their pets would go to heaven. In a rather disdaining voice, the host said, “No. Your pets do not go to heaven.”

I wondered if he’d actually ever read the bible scriptures: which do not negate the fact of pets in heaven…

To be fair, I think the host was thinking along the lines of “Pets don’t have a human soul,” then jumped to the premise: ‘Therefore, pets don’t go to heaven since there won’t be a final judgement for them, and since pets act on instinct.’

But just because there won’t be a final judgement for pets, does that mean they automatically aren’t in heaven? Obviously the lion and the lamb in the following lines haven’t had a final judgement either, but the bible clearly states that they will be in heaven!

In fact, the bible names many animals in heaven:

In Isaiah 65:25 it states:

The wolf and the lamb shall pasture together,
and the lion shall eat hay like the ox—
but the serpent’s food shall be dust
.                                                                                                  None shall harm or destroy                                                                                                            on all my holy mountain, says the LORD.

Not only do the scriptures talk about animals in heaven, but say that they will be nice, like pets…(and who knows, our own pets may be included!!!)

Isaiah 11: 6-9

Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb,
The calf and the young lion shall browse together,
with a little child to guide them. (Like children having pets on leashes in heaven!?)        The cow and the bear shall graze,                                                                                         together their young shall lie down (And why not also have the cat and dog lie down together?)
The baby shall play by the viper’s den, (Even babies will get pets in heaven!!! )
and the child lay his hand on the adder’s lair (Some crazy exotic pets!)
They shall not harm or destroy on all my holy mountain; (No more cat litter boxes? Hopefully?)
for the earth shall be filled with knowledge of the Lord
as water covers the sea….

In this life, a child can’t play in a viper’s den, nor does a lion eat hay; it prefers a juicy gazelle...So obviously the scriptures are talking about a gentler time, a future time: in Heaven: with animals.

It’s as if God had anticipated that age old question: Are there pets in heaven? -and chose to answer that question before we even asked!
